 | Mr Mullett Owns a Cloud The magical story of a Cumbrian farmer and his adventures with the mischievous cloud, Napoleon By Angela Locke
When Mr Zeus, King of the Gods, accidentally drops his pet thunderbolt into Mr Mulletts cow byre, he wants to show his gratitude to the farmer for looking after his precious property. How can I ever thank you? asks Mr Zeus. Thats reet kind of you, says Mr Mullett. I think weve got most things we need, the missus and me. Cepting a bit of weather now and then... The very thing! cries Mr Zeus. And sends him a cloud, Napoleon, for a years free trial on the fell farm. But nothing is ever for free... To begin with, Mr Mullett is not at all sure he wants to keep the cloud. It is helpful, of course, to have a shower of rain or a patch of shade for the crops, but the farmer is not so pleased to find his pipe tobacco squelchy and Mrs Mullett sometimes resents having her kitchen permanently filled with a thick fog. Somehow, Napoleons curious nature, and his regrettable tendency to show off a bit, leads him into all sorts of trouble, not only in and around Home Farm but further afield, at the Carrowbridge Fair and on the annual WI outing to Silcombe Bay. In fact, as the farming year progresses, the long-suffering Mulletts discover that taking on a high-spirited cloud is by no means all plain sailing, though they also come to recognise that it also comes with its own silver lining. There is still a little magic left in the world For readers of all ages ...who believe in magic
